Editing and adapting content
On this page
Yes, you can edit and adapt the videos you receive, as long as you specify it in the brief and do not distort the content or damage the creator’s image. This applies to both organic content and ads.
How to specify it in the brief
In the Script and references step, you’ll find the Editing instructions (optional) field. Explain what you’ll do with the video and how you want to receive it. If you prefer to edit it yourself, ask the creator to also provide the unedited clips or the video without music. The creator accepts the brief knowing how their work will be used.
Edits that work
- Trim, shorten or reorder shots.
- Adapt the format: vertical, square or horizontal.
- Add subtitles, text overlays, your logo or a call to action.
- Combine different hooks with the same video body to test ads. See extra hooks and formats.
- Change or add licensed music.
- Translate subtitles into other languages.
What isn’t allowed
- Change the meaning of what the creator says or take their words out of context.
- Manipulate their voice or image, for example with AI, to make them say or do something they did not record.
- Use the video to train AI models, unless authorized by HICARI or the creator.
- Create edits that portray the creator negatively: offensive, mocking or misleading.
- Use the edited versions for another brand or outside the usage rights you have. See prohibited uses.
Editing doesn’t extend usage rights
Edited versions have the same usage rights as the original video: unlimited organic use and paid use until the same end date. Review paid use.
What if I didn’t specify it in the brief?
Don’t edit it yourself. Ask the creator first through the HICARI chat, and only edit it if they give you written consent in that conversation. In your next requests, include it in the editing instructions from the start.
If you want the creator to change something in the video, ask them during the review. We explain it in what changes you can request.
